3 best trade destinations for Kings’ Tristan Thompson

With the looming possibility of his time coming to an end with the Sacramento Kings, Tristan Thompson may find himself on a new team in the coming weeks.

Currently playing for a Kings team that doesn’t seem like it’ll be in a position to compete any time soon, Thompson’s presence may be of higher value on a team that’s looking to add more size and length to their frontcourt rotation.

As we quickly approach the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline, Thompson’s name has come up in several trade rumors over the past few days. With that said, let’s take a look at the best landing spots for Thompson.

Tristan Thompson Trade Destinations

3. Los Angeles Clippers

This would be a welcome addition for the Los Angeles Clippers, as it would reunite Thompson with former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue whom he won an NBA championship with in 2016. Given LA’s lack of size and length, Thompson would be able to fill a major area of need for the Clips and provide them with some much-needed rim protection and rebounding while increasing their opportunities for second chance points.

A big man rotation featuring Thompson, Ivica Zubac and Isaiah Hartenstein would give the Clippers quality depth at the center spot and improve their interior defense drastically. As Los Angeles continues to search for value-added moves that will improve their roster, this is a trade that they could benefit from greatly.

2. Dallas Mavericks

In their continued efforts to build an improved roster around franchise superstar Luka Doncic, the Dallas Mavericks would gain a lot from Tristan Thompson’s defensive tenacity and championship experience. Plus, he’d thrive in the pick-and-roll game with Luka and become a major lob threat for Dallas throughout the season.

This move wouldn’t make them instant title contenders, but it would unquestionably improve their low-post scoring at the center spot and give them a reliable rebounder and shot blocker which are all major needs on the Mavs’ relatively thin frontline.

In Thompson, the Mavs would gain a seasoned NBA veteran with a gritty mentality that would toughen them up.

1. Charlotte Hornets

As an up-and-comer in the Eastern Conference that possesses plenty of youth, athleticism and scoring, a key area of improvement for the Charlotte Hornets would be on the defensive end. Adding an accomplished big like Thompson to anchor their defense in their starting line-up or coming off the bench would be a major plus for Charlotte.

In their continued pursuit of the 2022 NBA Playoffs, making a move for Thompson ahead of the trade deadline would benefit them greatly.

This would also give the Hornets another veteran leader outside of Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier. If they want to reach the next level, then adding some quality frontcourt depth and a strong leader with NBA Finals experience would help this young and growing Hornets squad out immensely.

With so much going for the Hornets already, this is a move that seems too good for them to pass up.
